Robyn Sandys has worked in the nonprofit field for over 20 years. She also spent five years in the profit making arena as marketing director for Star Newspapers in Chicago’s south suburbs. Her career began in the 1970’s in the social service sector as a counselor for disadvantaged youth and as a Vista volunteer working in a half way house for emotionally disturbed young adults. She followed that experience working as a counselor with young adults who had drug and alcohol problems.

Robyn shifted gears in the 1980’s from counseling to policy and outreach in the areas of children and youth services where she worked in California and Hawaii. In Hawaii she worked as a policy analyst for the Governor’s Office of Children and Youth and as a legislative aid for a state senator. In California, she worked for KCET- Public TV where she was community outreach manager for various youth oriented and social issue television productions.

Robyn’s interest in public policy continued as her career shifted to the community development field. She served as executive director of a nonprofit in the Chicago Southland that was involved in starting the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau where she later served as their marketing director.

In the mid 1990’s, Robyn moved to Cleveland and held the position of community outreach manager and television producer for WVIZ-Public Television. In this position she won numerous state-wide awards for documentaries she wrote and produced on a variety of social issues. Several years later she served as director of policy development for Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coalition, a trade association serving Cleveland area community development corporations (CDCs). In that position, she focused on policy and housing issues relating to neighborhood development. She continued working in community development in Cleveland working for Neighborhood Progress, Inc. a funder of Cleveland based CDCs.

Starting in 2007 she served as executive director of the Old Brooklyn Community Development
Corporation until late 2013. In December of 2013 she took the position with North West Housing
Partnership based in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Robyn graduated college with a BA in Community Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz and has completed graduate work in public policy and communications.
